Ponytail Palms are a cool looking indoor plant.
They’re actually not a true palm–they’re botanically closer to an Agave or Yucca plant, but sort of look like a palm, hence their name. They’ve also been called the “Elephant’s Foot Palm” because of their unique, bulbus bottom portion of their trunk at soil level that gets larger and larger over time.
They like lots and lots of light and need very little water. Indoors they’re somewhat prone to mealybug as a pest, so you need to watch carefully for telltale white cottony spots showing up on their leaves.
Given time, these grow gigantic. As indoor specimens, I’ve seen them reach 9 feet or more, truly massive. They’re a great high light, low maintenance plant for indoors!
